MERION STATION, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s tennis team began play at the SJU Invitational on Friday and had a pair of doubles teams go 1-1. Senior Emilie Bush and freshman Schuyler La Barge had the top performance, advancing to the quarterfinal round in Flight 2.

Bush and La Barge won their first match of the day, beating Drexel’s Marta Martinez and Jennifer White, 8-4. The Bucknell duo nearly moved on to the semifinals, but dropped a tough 8-6 decision to Villanova’s Carina Burdick and Alexandra Krogius in their quarterfinal match.

In Flight 1, junior Mishi Papich and freshman Cayla Koch fell 8-3 to Drexel’s Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch in their opening match, but bounced back with an 8-1 victory over La Salle’s Ali Snyder and Tiffany Theophil in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket.

Play will resume on Saturday, including the start of singles play, and will conclude on Sunday.
