LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell’s Bridgette Holland has been named the Patriot League Volleyball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. The freshman hit well over .400 in both matches while helping the Bison go 1-1 in league contests against Lehigh and Lafayette over the weekend.

Holland hit .488 while tallying 23 kills as Bucknell fell to Lehigh and recorded a win over Lafayette. She had just one error on 45 attempts. The freshman hit .533 – her second-best of the season – with eight kills in the win over the Leopards. She recorded her sixth double-digit kill total of the season with 15 in the match against the Mountain Hawks.

Holland is hitting .271 on the season. She has tallied double-digit kills six times, and posted a hitting percentage better than .300 in five of those matches.

Bucknell has received two Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors this season. Freshman Mimi Richards won the award after the opening weekend of the season for her play in three matches at the Bucknell Tournament. It is the first time the Bison have had multiple players win the award in the same season since Brandi Trapasso and Jennifer Wrigley in 2000.

The Bison will be on the road for the fourth time in five matches when they travel to play Loyola (Md.) on Saturday at 2 p.m. They open a six-match homestand against Colgate on Monday at 2 p.m.
