BALTIMORE, Md. – A strong day at the serving line lifted Bucknell to a 3-1 win at Loyola (Md.) in a Patriot League volleyball match Saturday at Reitz Arena. Freshman Sophie Bullard and Brooke Stark tallied four aces apiece, leading the Bison to the win by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 25-17.

Bucknell finished with 10 aces as a team – juniors Hailey Stout and Jenna Slusar added one apiece – and had just four errors. Loyola, which fell to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in the Patriot League, totaled 12 errors and two aces.

The turning point in the match came late in the third set with the overall score tied at 1-1. Bucknell trailed 24-23, but scored three straight points to avoid being down a set. Senior Jordan Walker tied it at 24-all with a kill, Bullard put the Bison up one with a kill, and the set was decided on a Loyola attack error.

Junior Luz Nagle, who assisted on both of the big kills in the third set, finished with 25 for the match. Bullard continued her solid freshman season with the third double-double of her career and the second in the past three matches. She finished with a team-high 12 kills and 15 digs. Stark tallied a team-high 23 digs.

The freshmen duo of middle blockers Mimi Richards and Bridgette Holland continued to give opponents trouble. Richards registered six block assists, while Holland, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week, had five. Nagle, a setter, showed her versatility, matching Richards with six.

Bucknell has won back-to-back matches, both against conference opponents. The Bison will look to make it three in a row when they host Colgate on Monday. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Davis Gym.
