ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Playing its second straight tough opponent on the road to open league play, the Bucknell volleyball team fell to Navy 3-0 on Saturday at Wesley A. Brown Field House. The Mids, who boast the best overall record in the conference, improved to 11-3 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-22
“In the first weekend of our Patriot League schedule, we saw some improvement, but we are still trying to keep a consistent level of play through an entire set/match so we can come out on top,” said Bucknell head coach Anna Allison. “There is a lot of season left, and we are going to continue to work hard.”
Sophie Bullard had an efficient match for the Bison, who dropped to 2-12 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The freshman tallied a team-high eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Senior Jordan Walker and junior Hailey Stout added seven kills apiece.
Senior Erika Eastley finished with two solo blocks and two block assists and moved up another spot on Bucknell’s career list for total blocks. She now has 331, which puts her ahead of Jennie Smith (2003-06) for fourth in program history. She will need another 58 this season to pass former teammate Karen Campbell for third.
Dorothy Murray paced Navy with 12 kills on .333 hitting. Patricia Mattingly registered a double-double with 29 assists and 12 digs, while Katie Patrick registered a team-high four total blocks.
The Bison will be on the road for the third straight match to open league play when they travel to play Lehigh on Friday at 7 p.m. They follow that with a home match against Lafayette on Saturday at 5 p.m.
