HAMILTON, N.Y. – Kendall Ham found the back of the net in overtime to give Bucknell a 2-1 victory at Colgate Sunday at Beyer-Small ’76 Field. Ham scored the game-winner off a corner from Karli Cirovski with two seconds remaining in the overtime period as the Bison improve to 10-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Patriot League.
It was a hard fought battle for the Bison, as Colgate generated 25 shots and eight corners in the contest. With the win, Bucknell, who entered Sunday as one of three unbeaten teams in the country, earns its third straight win over the Raiders and picks up three important points in the conference standings.
Following a two-goal performance Wednesday against Lafayette, Maddie Mulford gave the Bison a 1-0 lead 3:28 into the contest. Alexis Gannon sent in a cross to Mulford, who sent a low kick to the right side of the netting for her seventh goal of the year. She has now scored a goal in four consecutive games.
Colgate, who outshot the Bison 12-7 in the first half, connected on the equalizer in the 21st minute. Keeley Lockwood scored off a corner kick from Dom DeMarco, snapping Bucknell’s five-game shutout streak.
The Raiders, picked fourth in the PL Preseason Poll, put heavy pressure on the Bison in the second half, but the Bucknell defense was up for the challenge. The Bison back line came up with timely stops, including important deflections by Cirovski, Meghan Holtz and Kelsey Witt.
Jessica Ratner finished with a season-high 10 saves, including an incredible stop in the 96th minute, leaping high to turn away a shot over the crossbar to keep the game tied. Kelly Chiavaro made five saves for the Raiders.
"Today we came out and fought hard," said head coach Kelly Cook, a 2006 graduate of Colgate. "We knew going into the game it was going to be a battle. I was extremely proud of the way we defended and were able to keep a very dangerous Colgate offense limited to one goal. We took advantage of the late set piece to find the win. Overall, I was really happy with our mentality today as we found a way to win."
Bucknell returns to action Saturday (Oct. 8) with a contest at Navy. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the match will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
