BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Will Bordash earned First Team All-Patriot League honors with a seventh-place finish, and the Bucknell men’s cross country team placed fifth at the Patriot League Championship on Saturday at Lehigh.
The Bison compiled 94 points, which was only 15 out of third place. Army narrowly edged Navy for the team title by a 43-47 margin. Boston University was third with 79 points, followed by American (88), Bucknell, Lehigh (126), Holy Cross (230), Lafayette (248), Colgate (257) and Loyola (305).
Paul Luevano of Boston University was the gold-medalist, pulling away for a 15-second victory over runner-up Cory Donley of Navy.
Bordash ran the 8K course in 24:26. The 2014 Patriot League Rookie of the Year is now a two-time all-conference performer in cross country. He earned second team honors last year after finishing 10th.
Sophomore Drew Dorflinger (17th, 24:59) and freshman Connor McMenamin (20th, 25:06) were also top-20 finishers for the Bison. Also counting toward the team’s total were sophomores Jacob Stupak (22nd, 25:09) and Ben Siciliano (28th, 25:23).
“We went into this meet with great confidence, but had a couple people struggle a bit and with it being so close it cost us a couple places,” said coach Kevin Donner. “I was proud of Will, who earned first team all-league, and Connor ran a nice race as a freshmen. Drew was sick and was running well until the last 500 meters and just ran out of gas. I am confident he and the team will bounce back for regionals in two weeks.”
The Bison will be back at the Lehigh course on Nov. 10 for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
