LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s track and field team won six events en route to winning the team title at the Gulden Invitational on Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Kafilat Oladiran won the 60-meter hurdles at the meet for the second straight season. After advancing past the prelims with a time of 9.03, she finished with a time of 8.90 in the finals to earn the victory. Also scoring in race for the Bison was Janiel Slowly.
Kaitlin Salisbury continues to make an impact in her rookie season. Salisbury picked up her fifth win of the year, winning the 60m with a time of 7.77. She competed in the long jump, placing second with a leap of 18-10 ½, while also scoring in the triple jump.
In the 800m, Sarah Chandler won the race for the second consecutive year. In a field of 19 runners, Chandler finished in 2:14.30. Margaret Sliney was the runner-up in the race, crossing the line in 2:14.96. Both times met the ECAC standard.
Christine Bendzinski earned her first win of the year in the 3,000m, posting an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:46.24, 19 seconds faster than second-place finisher Colleen Buckley. Kate Scott and Brennan Sharkey scored in the race, taking fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the 4x800m relay, a team of Loh, Fitzgerald, Chandler and Elizabeth Sheprow recorded a first-place finish with a time of 9:30.88.
Lauren Gronbeck was the runner-up in the 5,000m, completing the race in 17:54.18. Christine O’Kane also scored in the event with a top-five finish. In the 200m, Emily Ryan finished second in the race with a mark of 25.98
Allison Sharkey and Elyse Pettaway scored for the Bison in the 400m, taking third and fourth, respectively. They both teamed up along with Sliney and Emma Harris the 4x400m relay, placing second with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 3:54.11.
In the 500m, Harris, Rebecca Rooney, Natalie Waterhouse and Seline Tan-Torres each scored in the race to add to the Bison point total. Sheprow and Anna Chiodo-Ortiz placed second and third, respectively, in the 1,000m race.
In field events, Molly Montalvo earned a second-place finish in the weight throw, recording an ECAC-qualifying toss of 52-10 ¾, while Ella Schultz and Jenna Phillips each scored in the shot put. Jenna Calandro and Chloe Brown scored in the pole vault in a field of 21 participants.
“We competed with a lot of passion and a lot of intensity,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “It was great winning the team title and we had a lot of improvement from the past two meets. Our women are deep and strong in a lot of event areas. We just have to get a few ladies healthy and we will be a very solid team. Overall, a very fun day for the Bison.”
Bucknell returns to action Jan. 27-28 for a pair of meets. A group of Bison will travel to Penn State to compete at the Penn State National Invitational, while another group will remain in Lewisburg to host the Bison Open.
