NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A relay made up of Christine Bendzinski, Sarah Chandler, Allison Sharkey, Margaret Sliney broke the school record in the distance medley relay on Friday night at the Meyo Invitational at Loftus Sports Center.

The group completed the race in 11:27.11, shattering the previous mark of 11:34.61 set last season, which also featured Bendzinski and Chandler. Chandler ran the first 1,200m in 3:29.8, while Sharkey ran the second leg of the race, 400m in 58.1. Sliney ran the following 800m in 2:12.7, followed by Bendzinski running the remaining 1,600m in 4:46.

 Youngstown State National Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Kathleen Fitzgerald was the runner-up in the 1,000-meter on Friday to lead the Bison women on the opening day of action at the Youngstown State National Invitational at Watson and Tressel Training Site.

In a field of 27 runners, Fitzgerald took second with a time of 2:58.37. Emma Cousins and Anna Chiodo-Ortiz placed sixth and seventh, respectively, giving Bucknell three top-10 finishers in the race.

Molly Montalvo took sixth of 38 in the weight throw, recording a heave of 51-3.

Margaret Thomson finished in the top-10 of the 5,000m, while Laura Papili, Natalie Waterhouse and Rebecca Rooney cracked the top-10 in the 500m.

Both the Youngstown State National Invitational and Meyo Invitational will conclude Saturday with a second day of competition.
