BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track and field team won four events on the opening day of the Patriot League Outdoor Championships Friday at Lehigh's Goodman Track and Field Complex.
The defending league champions battled through rainy conditions on Friday and sit atop the standings with 82 points. Navy is in second with 41.5 points, while host Lehigh is third with 39 points.
Colleen Buckley was crowned Patriot League champion in the 10,000-meter, winning the race in 36:32.33 to earn First Team All-Patriot League honors. Kate Scott was the runner-up in the race to earn Second Team All-Patriot League accolades, while freshman Lauren Gronbeck reached the podium in her first outdoor championships, taking third. It was a big 25-point event for the Bison, as Anna Chiodo-Ortiz scored with an eighth-place showing.
Rebecca Skovira won the javelin, earning First Team All-Patriot League status with a toss of 153-2 3/4, a new personal record and the fifth-best mark in Bucknell history. Meg Sangimino finished second in the event with a toss of 150-7 1/4, earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors. Bucknell scored 21 points in the event, as Kasey Getkin finished sixth with a heave of 124-8 1/4.
Stephanie Easse was the top thrower in the discus, winning the gold medal with a heave of 156-10 1/2, a new personal record and the third-best mark in program history. Emily Fisher reached the podium, taking third with a toss of 144-5.
Salisbury also advanced to Saturday's final in both the 100m and 200m races. She finished fifth in the prelims of the 100m with a time of 12.30, while taking seventh in the 200m with a mark of 25.23.
“Although we had a pretty big day, Boston had a great day as well and have a lot of points waiting in the wings with all the sprint and hurdle finalists,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “It looks like it's going to come down right to the end.”
The Patriot League Outdoor Championships concludes on Saturday. The final day will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
