GREENVILLE, North Carolina – The Bucknell softball team wrapped up play at the ECU Pirate Clash with a tough 1-0 loss to host East Carolina on Sunday. The Bison finished 2-3 at the season-opening event, including wins over Saint Francis and the Pirates.

Senior Amanda Fazio gave up just one run on six hits while pitching all six innings for Bucknell. She struck out five batters and walked just one. She also had two of the Bison’s six hits.

East Carolina scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, which was led off with a triple by Casey Alcorn. She scored when the next batter, Karlie Smith, grounded out to second base.

Bucknell had chances to score, but couldn’t get the clutch hit it needed. The Bison stranded the bases loaded in the first and third innings.

Lydia Ritchie pitched out of trouble for the Pirates (6-5) and went the distance to get the win. She struck out two batters, hit a pair, and walked two in the complete game shutout.

Carolyn Wan matched Fazio at the plate with two singles, while Meghan Kovac and Anna Gimmestad each had one single.

“Fazio was brilliant in the circle again,” Foster said. “We have to make adjustments to win, and we weren’t able to do that today. We had some standout performances from our freshmen this weekend, I am looking forward to getting back on the field with this team in Wilmington.”

The Bison will be in Wilmington from Friday through Sunday to play in the UNCW Invitational. They will play three games against the host Seahawks and two against North Carolina Central.
