ROCK HILL, S.C. – Freshmen Raeanne Geffert and Lauren Lichtenwalner combined on a four-hit shutout, and Meghan Kovac hit her second home run of the season in Bucknell softball’s 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday in the final game of the Winthrop/Adidas Tournament.

Bucknell went 4-1 over the weekend and improved to 8-2 overall. The Bison also recorded wins over North Carolina Central, East Tennessee State, and Eastern Kentucky at the tournament.

Geffert improved to 4-2 with five scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five. She has pitched 10 straight innings without giving up a run, all in relief, and recorded the win in both games.

Licthenwalner started and didn’t give up a run in her two innings of work. She allowed two hits, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out one.

Bucknell went up 2-0 with one run in each of the first two innings. Paulina Gutkin singled in Marisa Alemany in the first, and Carolyn Wan scored on a single by Celina Antonellis in the second.

Kovac made it a 3-0 game with a one-out homer to center in the third inning. The Bison added a fourth run on an RBI single by Christina Martinez later that inning, scoring Gutkin.

The Bison had 12 hits, led by Alemany, Kovac, and Gutkin with two apiece. Anna Gimmestad, Chaylen Andolino, Halie Mariano, Wan, Martinez, and Antonellis each added one hit.

During the five-game tournament, Kovac hit .500 (9-18) with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. Geffert went 3-1 with a 0.39 ERA, giving up just one earned run while striking out 17 batters in 18 innings. Lichtenwalner didn’t allow a run in six innings.

Bucknell will next play four games at the Colonial Classic Tournament in Washington, D.C., on March 4-5. The Bison will play Quinnipiac, Monmouth (twice), and host George Washington.
