KENNESAW, Ga. – Anna Gimmestad and Marisa Alemany homered for Bucknell, but the Bison lost an eight-inning slugfest to Fort Wayne 11-10 in their first, and what turned out to be only, game at Kennesaw State’s Rafter Memorial Tournament on Saturday. The forecast of rain for the rest of the weekend forced the cancelation of the remainder of the event.

The teams battled to a 7-7 tie after seven innings before combining for another seven runs in the eighth. Bucknell was up first and scored three, including a two-run home run by Alemany. It was the first career home run for the sophomore. That followed an RBI fielder’s choice by Gimmestad.

Fort Wayne countered with a double and three singles in the bottom half of the eighth. With two outs, Payton Hollis singled and advanced to second with a stolen base. She then scored the game-winning run on a single by Sydney Windlan.

Bucknell had its largest lead of the game, 6-2, after scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning. The rally was highlighted by a two-run homer by Gimmestad, her second of the season. Taylor Wolfgang scored on the hit after driving in Halie Mariano with a one-out double.

The Mastodons immediately responded to that rally, as well, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Demitra Burns had a two-run homer in the inning.

Offensively, Bucknell racked up 10 hits and added seven walks. Alemany and Gutkin had two hits apiece, Wolfgang and Lauren Licthenwalner each doubled, and Jazmyn Stokes, Julienne Egofske, and Ryanne Rokos added singles.

Bucknell dropped to 7-8 on the season, while Fort Wayne upped its record to 9-16.
