KENNESAW, Ga. – Bucknell softball’s bats went silent in a pair of losses at Kennesaw State on Monday, falling 4-0 in the first game and 10-2 in five innings of the second game of the doubleheader.
The Bison, who dropped to 7-10 overall, have shown positive signs both offensively and defensively but have struggled to get both in the same game. The lineup erupted for 10 runs in an extra-innings loss to Fort Wayne at Kennesaw State’s Bailey Park on Saturday.
Bucknell ran into a tough team in Kennesaw State, which improved to 14-8 overall and has won eight consecutive games.
The Bison have a tough but exciting challenge when they return to action on Wednesday. They will travel to play No. 11 Georgia for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – Kennesaw State 4, Bucknell 0
Bucknell had seven hits but stranded six runners on base in a 4-0 loss to Kennesaw State in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Bison went up against a solid strikeout pitcher in Abigail Green, who whiffed 10 in the game. She averages 8.3 strikeouts per game this season.
The Owls were led by Noelle Winkles with a single, double, and one RBI.
Taylor Langtry tuned in a nice relief outing for the Bison, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.
Game 2 – Kennesaw State 10, Bucknell 2 (5 innings)
Kennesaw State had 10 hits, including five for extra bases in a 10-2 win in five innings over Bucknell in the second game. Olivia Tamewitz, Maddie Roth, and Kira Czyrklis had two hits apiece for the Owls.
Bucknell’s runs both came in the fifth inning. Hadley led off with a double and scored on an error on a ball hit by Mariano. Following a sacrifice bunt by Ryanne Rokos, Mariano scored on an RBI groundout by Paulina Gutkin.
