LEWISBURG, Pa. – Meghan Kovac homered in both games, and Raeanne Geffert pitched 10 scoreless innings to lead Bucknell to a doubleheader sweep over visiting Lehigh on Saturday in the final two games of a Patriot League softball series at Becker Field. The Bison took two of three on the weekend to win a series against the Mountain Hawks for the first time since 1998.
The two wins helped Bucknell keeps its hopes of hosting the four-team Patriot League Tournament alive. The Bison sit in second place at 20-19-1 overall and 9-3 in the conference, while the Mountain Hawks dropped to third at 13-22 overall and 7-5 in the conference. Boston University (25-17, 7-2 PL) is in first place. The league schedule consists of 18 games.
Five Bucknell players – Kovac, Celina Antonellis, Paulina Gutkin, Taylor Langtry, and Maddie Minneci – were honored for Senior Day prior to the games. The team also celebrated its 40th season as a varsity sport with a large amount of alumni in attendance.
The Bison continue league play with a three-game series at Colgate on April 21-22.
Game 1 – Bucknell 5, Lehigh 0
Kovac homered and Geffert pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Bucknell to a 5-0 win in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Geffert gave up six hits, walked two batters, and struck out three. She stranded eight Lehigh runners on base, including five over the final two innings. With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh, she got the final two outs with popups.
Bucknell broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Julienne Egofske had the big hit in the inning, crushing one to the opposite field for a two-run double that scored Tara Baglivo and Taylor Wolfgang.
Just one inning later, Kovac added to the Bison lead with her 11th home run of the season. Marisa Alemany, who led off the inning with a walk, scored on the homer, which was pulled well over the left-field fence.
The Bison tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on a double by Anna Gimmestad that scored Egofske.
Geffert became just the third pitcher this season to record a complete-game shutout against Lehigh.
Game 2 – Bucknell 6, Lehigh 1
Kovac homered again, her school-record 12th of the season, and Geffert pitched three innings of scoreless relief to continue her dominant run against league opponents as the Bison rolled to a 6-1 win in the second game of the day.
Langtry picked up the starting nod and was outstanding in her four innings of work, allowing just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out one batter. She kept the Bison in the game until the offense came around, giving way to Geffert with the score tied 1-1.
Geffert gave up just two hits over the final three innings, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out one. The sophomore has appeared in all 12 league games this season, including nine starts, going 9-2 with a 0.67 ERA. She has struck out 53 batters to just seven walks in those games, while holding opponents to a .194 batting average.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until the Bison erupted for five runs in the sixth. Gutkin scored the go-ahead run after leading off the inning with a single. She moved to second on a single by Baglivo, and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Egofske. The senior then did her part with a nice slide at home to score on a groundball to first base by Rokos.
Alemany drove in a run with a double in the sixth-inning rally. Kovac followed with a two-run shot over the right-center field fence just two batters later. It was her fourth homer in league play this season.
