HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Bucknell men's golf team got off to a strong start in 2015-16, finishing in third place out of 14 teams at the Colgate Invitational at Seven Oaks GC. Freshman Connor O'Brien finished fourth individually in his collegiate debut, and the Bison were first among the four Patriot League teams in the field.

O'Brien, C.J. Zachary and Daniel Levin all shot 77 in Sunday's final round. Freshman J.P. Raftery tossed in a 79 to account for Bucknell's 310 team total. Added to a 306 and a 305 on Saturday, the Bison finished at 921 over 54 holes. Youngstown State won the tournament with a 911 composite, followed by Cornell at 915. Colgate and Lafayette tied for fourth at 924, while the other Patriot League team, Lehigh, placed 11th at 956.

O'Brien fired a 2-under-par 70 in his very first round on Saturday, and his 223 total was just one shot out of a playoff. Lafayette's Art Griffin and Cornell's Luke Graboyes and Mike Graboyes all finished tied at 222, and Mike Graboyes won it on the second extra hole.

Zachary, Raftery and freshman Jubal Early, who was playing as an individual, also finished in the top 20. Early, who shot 79 on Sunday after opening 72-77, finished tied for 11th at 228. Zachary (233) placed 18th and Raftery (234) T-19th.

Bucknell will be back in action next weekend at its annual fall tournament. The Bucknell Invitational will be played Saturday and Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Club.
