BALTIMORE, MD. – Daniel Wright, Max Kane, and Ben Gerber all had two singles wins while leading Bucknell men’s tennis to two wins on the road on Saturday. The Bison opened with a 5-2 win at Patriot League foe Loyola, and then made the short trip for a 6-1 win at Coppin State.

Wright rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Blest Jones on court one in Bucknell’s first match of the day. Jones set Loyola’s single-season wins record a year ago.

Kane and Gerber were equally as dominant in their matches against Loyola. Kane won by  6-1, 6-2 scores on court three, while Gerber was a 6-3, 6-0 winner on court six. Also adding a straight-sets victory was Bryan Adams on court four.

The Bison won all three doubles matches, including a 6-3 triumph by Adams and Vitiuc on court one. Gerber and Wright were 6-4 victors on court two, and Kane and Max Haase shut out their opponents on court three.

Loyola dropped to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League.

Immediately following the league win over Loyola, Bucknell went to Coppin State and recorded a 6-1 victory. Wright again won on court one, defeating Gabriel Franca 6-1, 6-4.

Kane’s second win of the day came in easy fashion with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout on court three. It was her third straight victory. Gerber bumped up to court four and won 6-1, 6-1.

Adding singles wins for the Bison were Colin Sacco on court five and Max Haase on court six. Both won in straight sets.

The Bison again swept the doubles matches, including a 6-2 victory by Adams and Vitiuc on court one. Wright and Sacco were 6-1 winners on court two, while Kane and Haase won 6-0 for the second time that day on court three.

“The team is really starting to come together and play and compete at the level they are capable of on an everyday basis,” Bucknell head coach Bruce Myers said. “Doubles for once was a positive instead of something we had to overcome a deficit from. It was a total team effort from start to finish and five of our last seven matches feels very positive. We have the hardest part of our schedule coming up this week.”

Bucknell improved to 8-14 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League with wins in four of their past five matches. The Bison will play a league match at home against Lehigh on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
