WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Bucknell women’s tennis is off to its best start since 2005 after it improved to 4-1 with a 7-0 shutout at Niagara in a non-conference match Sunday. The Bison won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests.
Senior Michele Urbinati had the closest match of the day, rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Stella Peisakhova at No. 1 singles. The last time the two teams met in 2016, the Niagara player pulled off a three-set upset over Maria Cioffi, one of the best player in program history.
Three of those remained unbeaten in singles during the spring. Melch improved to 5-0, while Fishbein and Parks each upped their record to 4-0.
In doubles, Leavy and junior Emilie Bush were 6-2 winners on court two, while Gannon and Parks won 6-2 on court three. Gannon and Parks are 2-0 during the spring with their second victory in as many days.
“I’m really pleased with the way we are competing in singles right now,” Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. “We’re making a lot of adjustments in the match when necessary and fighting from behind to win sets and matches. We just really need to focus on our doubles right now.”
The Bison look to keep their momentum going when they play Marist on Friday. The match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at The Tennis Zone & Fitness Center.
