ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Bucknell women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Tuesday at the Fort Gatlin Tennis Center. The Bison dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson, then turned right back around and handled Fairfield 6-1. Lauren Fishbein and Mishi Papich both went 2-0 in singles, and the double tandem of Lisa Jouravleva and Emilie Bush also had a 2-0 day as the Bison moved to 6-3 on the season.

In the first match of the day against FDU, the Bison dropped the doubles point after suffering defeats in tiebreakers at both No. 1 and 2. The Knights then claimed the first two singles matches to go up 3-0, but the Bison rallied.

Fishbein put the first point on the board with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win over Tatiana Eftenoiu at No. 2 singles. Papish swept Sabrina Helm 6-2, 6-0, and then Jouravleva claimed a second-set tiebreaker over Marta Ruszczynska to knot the match at 3-3.

FDU pulled it out on Court 4, where Patricia Eftenoiu outlasted Paige Leavy in a three-and-a-half-hour marathon, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

"I knew FDU was going to be tough match, they are very a very talented team," said head coach Rebecca Helt. "In singles, we did exactly what we needed to do. We fought hard against good players and won three of the six matches. It was once again the doubles point, in my opinion, that let us down."

On the heels of the four-plus-hour test against FDU, the Bison had less than an hour to recover for the evening match against Fairfield. This time, Bucknell got off to a great start, winning all three doubles matches by 6-2 scores.

Urbinati was the first winner in singles, beating Diana Prinos 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Nicole Araganos secured the Stags' lone win at No. 3 to make it 2-1, but the Bison won all the rest, including three-set wins by Fishbein at No. 1, Madeline Melch at No. 4, and Papich at No. 5. Melissa Parks also claimed a straight-set win at sixth singles, which turned out to be the match-clincher.

"This time, we got the momentum going by winning the doubles point," said Helt. "It was a solid effort today."

The Bison are back in action on Thursday, taking on LIU Brooklyn at 11:30 a.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
