LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lisa Jouravleva remained unbeaten during the spring with her fifth straight win, but Bucknell came up short in a 5-2 loss to Colgate in its Patriot League women’s tennis opener Saturday at the Turning Stone Sportsplex.

Jouravleva, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Hannah Fleckenstein to improve to 5-0 during the spring.

Freshman Paige Leavy was Bucknell’s other singles winner on the day. She was an 8-4 winner over Kaelin Brittin to up her record to 11-10 overall and 5-6 during the spring.

The doubles point went down to the wire, with Colgate winning thanks to 7-6 victories on courts two and three. Senior Michele Urbinati and sophomore Lauren Fishebein won their match on court one, 6-3. They are 6-5 this spring with all 11 matches coming on court one.

Bucknell has had success over Colgate in recent years, winning four straight matches prior to Saturday’s contest. The past three wins came by a combined 15-0 score.

“This was just a really disappointing performance,” Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. “But I have to hand it to the Colgate team; they played to win.”

Bucknell dropped to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot League. Colgate improved to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The Bison are scheduled to play on their home courts for the first time this season when they host Villanova on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
