BETHELHEM, Pa. – Luke Johnson was 3-for-7 with two runs scored, Sam Clark was 3-for-7 with a home run and one run scored, Danny Rafferty was 3-for-9 with an extra base hit and Bucknell received strong pitching as it swept a doubleheader at Lehigh Sunday afternoon. The Bison claimed game one 3-2 and won game two 8-0, highlighted by three home runs.

Bucknell (12-13, 3-1 PL) won three of the four games in the weekend series. It was the first doubleheader sweep of the season for the Bison, who split two of their first three twinbills.

Bucknell was the stronger team in Sunday’s two games, outhitting Lehigh 17-8 and outscoring the Mountain Hawks 11-2. The Bison hit .283 in the two games, while Lehigh batted .148.

The Bison’s game one win was victory No. 100 for head coach Scott Heather, who joins Gene Depew (1982-2012) and Tommy Thompson (1967-81) as the third Bison head coach to eclipse 100 career wins.

Bucknell will be back on the field Wednesday for a mid-week game against Binghamton on Apr. 5 at 3 p.m. at Depew Field. The Bison will resume Patriot League play when they host Army West Point for four games on Apr. 8-9. 

Game 1: Bucknell 3, Lehigh 2
The Bison scored their first run of the game in the opening inning. Smith got things started with a leadoff single and then stole second. Following an out, Clark doubled to right center to score Smith.

Smith scored his second run of the game in the third inning. The senior singled on his at bat and advanced to third following a single from Rafferty, later scoring on a balk. 

Bucknell added insurance in the sixth. Johnson led off the inning with a single and then stole second. Johnson advanced to third on a ground out, followed by a walk from Evan Klugerman, placing runners on first and third. Tyler Wincig scored Johnson on a RBI-groundout.

Lehigh scored two runs with two outs in the seventh inning, but a ground out ended the comeback trail.

Jeff Gottesman pitched 6.2 innings, surrendering three hits and one earned run. He held the Mountain Hawks without a hit through the first three innings. Mike Stephens, who entered Sunday with an ERA of 0.93, came on in relief for the final out, earning his first save of the season.

Game 2: Bucknell 8, Lehigh 0
Mike Castellani (2-1), the reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, threw his second straight complete-game shutout. He scattered five hits, while striking out two and issuing one walk.

Bucknell quickly got on the board with a solo home run from JohnPaul Bell in the first inning. He smashed a ball to right field for his first career homer. The Bison scored another run in the fifth, as Klugerman scored on a sacrifice fly from Smith.

The Bison plated four in the sixth inning to expand their lead. Wincig scored two runs on a double to left field, while Bell scored two more runners with a two-out single.

Bucknell scored twice more in the seventh inning, thanks to a pair of home runs. Clark homered to right center to lead off the inning. Following a groundout, Rawlings smacked a ball over the right field fence for his third home run of the year.
