LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior midfielder Katelyn Miller has been one of the catalysts of the suddenly red-hot Bucknell women's lacrosse team, and on Monday Miller was named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week and the Bison Athlete of the Week for her significant role in victories over Holy Cross and Howard.
In a 22-8 mid-week romp over Howard, Miller tied her career high with six goals. She scored four times in the first half to help the Bison pile up a commanding 12-5 lead. On Saturday, Miller tallied three goals and two assists in an exciting 8-7 win over Holy Cross. The Bison scored three times in a span of 3:55 in the second half to take an 8-3 lead, and Miller had a hand in all three with a goal and two assists. That surge proved to be the difference as Bucknell held off a late charge from the Crusaders.
Miller also stood out on the defensive end of the field, amassing five caused turnovers and four ground balls in the two games as the Bison allowed only 15 total goals on the week.
Miller was one of eight seniors recognized before the team's final home game on Saturday, and she ranks in the top 10 in program history in six statistical categories: goals (6th, 117), assists (5th, 45), points (6th, 162), ground balls (6th, 124), draw controls (3rd, 135) and caused turnovers (2nd, 97). Miller is one of eight 100-goal scorers in program history, and on Saturday she passed current assistant coach Julia Braun for sixth place on the all-time list.
After dropping its first 10 games of the season the Bison have now won three in a row, including Patriot League wins over American and Holy Cross. At 2-4 in the Patriot League with two league games remaining, Bucknell is just a half-game behing Colgate for the sixth and final Patriot League Tournament spot.
Bucknell has a critical league encounter coming up on Wednesday at Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen live online on the Patriot League Network.
