LEWISBURG, Pa.  – The Bucknell women’s lacrosse team was aiming for its first 3-0 start to a season since opening the 1997 campaign 7-0, but the Bison lost to Hofstra by a 15-5 score Saturday at an unseasonably warm Graham Field. Maddy Molinari led Bucknell (2-1) with two goals, while freshman Alyssa Parrella totaled a game-high five goals and seven points in her first career game for the Pride (1-0).

Sarah Galzerano scored the game’s first goal just 61 seconds in, but Hofstra netted the next seven scores and the closest the Bison could draw the rest of the way was four after Molinari’s first goal made it 7-3 with 5:50 to play in the first half.

Back-to-back free position goals by Molinari and Bridget Shaffrey brought Bucknell to within 10-5 with just over 20 minutes to play, but Hofstra scored the game’s final five goals.

Both teams won 11 draws in the contest, but Hofstra outshot the Bison 30-19 and captured 25 ground balls to Bucknell’s 15.

Jamie DeWitt posted eight saves in goal for the Bison, while Maddie Fields totaled seven saves and four ground balls for Hofstra.

Four different Hofstra players had multi-goal days, led by Parrella. Lexi Lenaghan came off the bench to net four goals, while Drew Shapiro added three.

Bucknell will play its first mid-week game of the season on Wednesday when it travels to Monmouth for a 6 p.m. contest. The Bison will be back home next Saturday, Feb. 25, when they host Wagner at 4:30 p.m. at Graham Field.
