STATEN ISLAND, N.Y./BRONX, N.Y. – The Bucknell men’s water polo team continued its strong start to the 2016 season on Saturday when it traveled to New York City and came away with victories at Wagner (13-11) and Fordham (14-11). The victories stretched the Bison’s win streak to nine games and their 11-1 record marks their best start to a season since 1980.

Bucknell, which is ranked 10th nationally, has won its last five games on the road against conference opponents. In all five of those games the opponent has scored 11 goals. The nine-game winning streak is tied for the sixth-longest in program history, and it is the longest since 2007.

Playing its first game ever against Wagner (3-11, 0-4 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference), a first-year Division I program, Bucknell received a team-high four goals from Nate Hunter and two apiece from Marko Djordjevic, Jeff Hagen and Rade Joksimovic to post the two-goal victory.

Neither team led by more than two goals in the entire game, which featured six ties. A goal by R.J. Moore with 3:57 left in the third quarter gave Bucknell (11-1, 5-0 MAWPC) a 9-8 lead, which it would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Oscar Nomura led the Seahawks with six goals.

In the nightcap, Joksimovic scored five goals and Ratimir Babic four as the Bison outscored Fordham 5-2 in the first quarter and made that early lead stand up the rest of the game. Bucknell led by as many as four goals and the game was never tied.

Hunter had two goals and two assists against the Rams, giving him six goals and eight points on the day. Joksimovic totaled seven goals and two assists for a team-high nine points in the two games.

Fordham (5-7, 2-3 MAWPC) was led by five goals from Tristen Knoflick.

With its five-game road trip complete, Bucknell will return home next Saturday to host George Washington (2 p.m.) and Navy (7 p.m.).
