CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rade Joksimovic netted 12 goals and dished out one assist as the No. 13 Bucknell men’s water polo team posted a convincing 23-6 victory over Iona Sunday afternoon to close out the Harvard Invitational. The Bison lost a tight 13-11 decision to host and No. 12-ranked Harvard earlier in the morning and finished the weekend with a 2-1 record.

Joksimovic’s goal total ties him for second on Bucknell’s single-game goals list and it eclipsed his previous high of nine against Navy a couple weeks ago. The last Bison player to reach double-figures in goals in a game was Josh Watts, who scored a program-record 13 against Washington & Jefferson in 1999. Joksimovic is tied for second with Sean Tierney (12 goals vs. Johns Hopkins in 1994).

Bucknell’s 23 goals against Iona marked the third time this year the Bison have scored at least 20 goals in a game, their most since 2010.

Bucknell (14-3) used an 11-0 run to end the game to reach its final 17-goal margin of victory against Iona (7-14). The Gaels did not score a goal over the final 16:25 as Bucknell outscored them 11-0 in the second half.

Eight additional Bucknell players scored goals in addition to Joksimovic with Nate Hunter (3) and Sean Daley (2) also posting multi-goal outings. The Bison improved to 26-16 all-time against Iona.

In the first game of the day against Harvard, Bucknell drew a season-high 16 ejections – including six by Hunter and five by Jeff Hagen – and converted four six-on-five opportunities and a pair of penalty shots, but could not overcome an early 7-1 deficit. The Bison scored the final three goals of the game and outscored the Crimson 7-4 overall in the second half after trailing by as many as seven goals at one point in the third quarter.

Joksimovic also led the Bison offense against Havard (16-3) with five goals and three assists. He now has 90 goals and 24 assists on the year.

Freshman goalie Alex Pullin came on in relief of Charlie Niehaus in the second quarter against the Crimson and he recorded a career-high six saves in more than 20 minutes of action. Niehaus bounced back with 14 saves in the win over Iona.

Noah Harrison led Harvard with seven goals, while Joey Colton added three.

Bucknell will make its annual visit to California next weekend when it faces Cal Baptist, Loyola Marymount, Fresno Pacific and Air Force at the Santa Clara Rodeo.
