LEWISBURG, Pa. – Rade Joksimovic registered five goals and three assists and the No. 18 Bucknell men’s water polo team completed a 2-0 day at the Bison Invitational with a 15-6 victory over Mercyhurst Saturday evening at Kinney Natatorium. Earlier in the day, the Bison defeated La Salle 21-6 behind six goals from Joksimovic.
It was the ninth home win in a row for Bucknell (3-6), which went on a 10-1 run midway through the contest to turn a 5-3 advantage into a 15-4 fourth-quarter lead. The Bison defense limited the Lakers to just the one goal in a span of 14:03.
Joksimovic was all over the place early in the contest as he scored three of his goals in the first quarter and finished the contest with a team-high five steals. Tommy Stupp, Cooper Dolan and Logan Schofield added two goals apiece for Bucknell, which improved to 2-0 on the season against unranked opponents.
Like they did in the day’s first contest, Charlie Niehaus and Alex Pullin split time in cage for the Bison. Niehaus finished with five saves against four goals allowed, while Pullin stopped three shots and allowed two goals.
Bucknell head coach John McBride, who picked up his 107th win at the helm of the Bison, played his entire roster and the reserves saw the bulk of the action in the second half when Bucknell outscored Mercyhurst (1-3) 7-3.
The Lakers were led by two goals apiece from Connor Schmitz and Phillip Jenny.
Bucknell, which is averaging 16 goals per game in its three wins this season, will wrap up play at the Bison Invitational Sunday at 1 p.m. against Salem International. The Tigers (2-5) lost their first two games this weekend and have a Saturday evening matchup with La Salle still scheduled.
