LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Joseph Breen set the school record in the shot put Friday at the Bucknell Tune-Up at Gerhard Fieldhouse. In addition, the team earned eight first-place finishes in the final meet before the Patriot League Indoor Championships.
Breen recorded a toss of 56-7 ¼ in the event, breaking the previous mark of 55-8 ¼ set by Luke Webster in 2013.
Will Carter earned his first career victories as a member of the track and field program. He was the top runner in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 6.96 in the finals. Carter also competed in the 200m, qualifying for the finals and winning the race with a mark of 21.85. Ryquan Harris was the runner-up in the event with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 22.55.
Jacob Ashkettle won the 400m race with a time of 49.91, meeting the IC4A standard. The senior now has three first-place finishes as an individual this season.
Nicholas Lombardo continued his dominance at Gerhard Fieldhouse with a first-place finish in the high jump, posting a leap of 6-10 ¼. He has now won a jumping event in each of his last six home meets.
Matthew Fay picked up his second win of the season in the pole vault, clearing 15-5. Steve Bolger and CJ Falcioni each earned their first win of the year in their respective field event. Bolger was the top participant in the long jump with a distance of 21-11 ½, while Falcioni was the top thrower in the weight throw, recording a toss of 52-2.
“We got exactly what we were looking for,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “Some people got to rest up, while others used this meet as a good tune-up and some put themselves in the conversation to make our league lineup. I was excited to see a lot of season best marks.
The Patriot League Indoor Championships are set for Feb. 17-19 at Boston University. The Bison will be seeking their first indoor title since 2012.
