LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Drew Dorflinger recorded a top-10 program performance in the 5,000-meter race Friday night under the lights on the opening day of the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Dorflinger finished fourth in a field of 31 runners with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 14:18.15, now sixth-fastest in Bucknell history. The rookie has now posted an IC4A-qualifying time in two events in his first outdoor campaign.
Luke Giugliano posted an IC4A-qualifying time in the 10,000m, cracking the top-10 with a mark of 29.52.01. Ross Pirnie turned in an IC4A-qualifying performance in the steeplechase, completing the race in 9:20.53, a season-best.
Terry Hall recorded a toss of 193-09 in the javelin, meeting the IC4A standard.
David Lucas of Penn State broke the facility record in the discus with a heave of 200-09, breaking the previous best of 191-90 recorded in 2015.
"A very solid day for the guys," said head coach Kevin Donner. "A breakout throw for Hall in the javelin and a breakout race for Giugliano in the 10k. Drew ran a great 5k and ran one of our all-time best times. Good to see a couple of freshmen at or under 15 flat in the 5k with Stupak and Rose."
Bucknell will resume action at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. with field events. Track events will begin at 11 a.m. The final day will broadcast on FloTrack. Sign up here.
