LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team will compete at home in five of its final seven dual matches in 2016-17, and will follow that home stretch by hosting the EIWA Championships in Sojka Pavilion March 3-4. Overall, the Bison will wrestle at home six times during the regular season before hosting EIWAs for the second time in program history, and the first time since 2011.

Bucknell, which has finished in third place at the EIWA Championships each of the last two years, had five EIWA placewinners and one individual champion (current assistant coach Kevin LeValley) the last time it served as host of the EIWA Championships. Ticket information for this year’s two-day event will be released at a later date.

The Bison will open their home schedule Jan. 10 against Franklin & Marshall. They will also host Penn (Jan. 27), American (Feb. 3), Sacred Heart (Feb. 4), Binghamton (Feb. 10) and Columbia (Feb. 17). The American match will take place in Sojka Pavilion, while the others will be held in Davis Gym. All six of Bucknell’s home duals are against fellow EIWA members.

The season will begin Nov. 6 with a road match at Oklahoma State, which finished in second place in the team standings and had two national champions at this past March’s NCAA Championships. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Bison traveled to Stillwater in November 2013.

Five days after that season-opening match, Bucknell will be back in Pennsylvania to face conference foe Lehigh in Bethlehem. The Bison last traveled to Lehigh in November 2013 and came away with an 18-17 victory for their first win in the series.

Bucknell will once again compete at the Navy Classic (Nov. 19) and Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 2-3). The Bison have wrestled at the Navy Classic 10 straight years, while this will mark the fifth time since 2008-09 the team will be making the trip to the competitive event in Las Vegas.

A Dec. 17 dual match at Gardner-Webb will conclude the 2016 calendar year for the Bison.

Following its home dual vs. Franklin & Marshall, Bucknell will wrestle at the Virginia Duals Jan. 13-14. The event is a regular on the Bison schedule with Bucknell wrestling at it every year since 2007-08.

Road duals against Harvard (Jan. 21), Brown (Jan. 22), Bloomsburg (Jan. 29) and Army West Point (Feb. 12) help round out the regular-season schedule. Ten of Bucknell’s 13 duals in 2016-17 are against EIWA opponents.

This year’s NCAA Championships are slated for March 16-18 in St. Louis, Missouri. It marks the second time in the last three years St. Louis has hosted the event.

Bucknell is coming off a 2015-16 campaign where it went 12-6 in duals to equal the second-most victories in program history. The Bison had six EIWA placewinners and a program record-tying six NCAA qualifiers.
