LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell wrestling veterans Victor Lopez (Poway, Calif./Poway) and Tom Sleigh (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Area) appear in The Open Mat preseason rankings, which were released this week. Lopez is ranked 11th nationally at 149 pounds, while Sleigh is listed 11th in the country at 184 pounds.

A three-time EIWA placewinner, Lopez, a senior, was 30-14 last year and earned his first career berth to the NCAA Championships. He finished in fourth place at the EIWA Championships and went on to post a 2-2 record at NCAAs.

On a career level, Lopez owns an 80-44 record and has increased his win total every year from 23 as a freshman in 2013-14 to 27 as a sophomore in 2014-15 to 30 last season to rank second on the team.

Sleigh, a junior, is a two-time NCAA qualifier at 184 pounds. Last year, he was 28-10 overall, placed seventh in the 184-pound bracket at the EIWA Championships and posted two victories at NCAAs.

A two-time EIWA placewinner, Sleigh ranked fifth nationally in wins by tech fall in 2015-16. He is 58-28 in his career and was 26-2 against unranked opponents last year.

Lopez and Sleigh will help lead a Bucknell team that has finished in third place at the competitive EIWA Championships each of the last two years. The Bison open the 2016-17 season Nov. 6 at Oklahoma State. Bucknell’s first home match is Jan. 10 against Franklin & Marshall. The Bison are also hosting the EIWA Championships March 3-4 in Sojka Pavilion.
