LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Garrett Hoffman, D.J. Hollingshead and Matthew Kolonia won individual titles to pace the Bucknell wrestling team to a first-place finish at the Lock Haven Classic Friday at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Boasting at least one placewinner at eight weight classes, the Bison totaled 113 points to edge Old Dominion (103.5) for the team crown. Messiah College rounded out the top three.

At 141, Kolonia emerged as the champion after winning his first three bouts by fall, including one in 2:39. In the championship match, he defeated VMI's Dominick Gallo by a slim 6-4 decision.

Hollingshead rolled to his title at 165, winning his first two bouts by a combined 16-3 margin. He then toppled Old Dominion's Luke Drugac in the championship bout by a resounding 13-3 major decision.

Hoffman rounded out Bucknell's group of individual champions, capturing the 197 crown. Hoffman, who advanced through the first round by medical forfeit, pinned VMI's Max Gallahan in the semifinals in just 1:06. In the championship bout, he defeated Old Dominion's Noah Bushman by a 7-2 decision.

Geo Barzona was the lone Bison to finish as a runner-up. At 125, the only weight class contested by round robin, he won three of his four bouts to place second to Lock Haven's Luke Werner.

Bucknell had a quartet of third-place finishers in Ben Bliss (141), Nick Stephani (174), Drew Phipps (184) and Brandon Stokes (285).

During his run through the consolation bracket, Bliss posted a pair of major decision victories. Stephani opened the Lock Haven Classic with an impressive pin of VMI's Gage Levin in 33 seconds while all three of Stokes's wins came by decision.

Phipps recorded a 17-2 technical fall over Buffalo's Logan Rill in 4:15 to advance to his third-place bout. There, he topped Messiah College's Derek Beltz by a 14-3 major decision.

The Bison will look to ride the momentum from their strong showing at the Lock Haven Classic into their 2 p.m. dual at Navy on Sunday, Jan. 7.
