LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior DL Abdullah Anderson (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was named the final Patriot League Football Defensive Player of the Week of the 2016 season on Monday. The two-time All-Patriot League selection posted five tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one pass breakup and two blocked field goals in the Bison’s season-ending loss to Fordham.
Anderson, who earned Bison Athlete of the Week honors after a win vs. Lafayette in October, set career highs in both tackles for loss and sacks against the Rams as Bucknell recorded its second-most sacks this season (5). Fordham lost 18 yards on Anderson’s 3.5 tackles for loss.
Anderson’s blocked field goals both came in the first half and came on attempts of 27 yards and 45 yards. He has blocked three kicks overall in his career.
A Preseason All-Patriot League selection, Anderson finished the campaign ranked fourth on the team with a career-high 55 tackles. He also posted career highs in tackles for loss (13.5) and sacks (8.5), ranking in the top three in the Patriot League in both categories.
A starter in all 33 games since he came to Bucknell, Anderson has totaled 129 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in his three-year Bison career.
Bucknell finished the 2016 campaign 4-7 overall and 3-3 in Patriot League play.
