CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell’s Abdullah Anderson, Bryan Marine and Ben Richard were voted to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team, the league office announced Thursday morning in conjunction with its release of the preseason poll.
All-Patriot League First Team selections in 2016, Anderson, Marine and Richard were among 28 players honored on the Preseason All-League Team.
A 2017 captain, Anderson is the only senior who has started all 33 games since arriving in Lewisburg. In 2016, he led the Bison in tackles for a loss (13.5), sacks (8.5) and blocked kicks (2) and finished fourth with 55 tackles (33 solo).
Among Patriot League players Anderson took second in tackles for a loss and third in sacks. Nationally, he was tied for eighth in blocked kicks and tied for 12th in sacks per game (.86). Anderson enters his senior season with 129 tackles (76 solo), 24.5 tackles for a loss and three blocked kicks in his career.
Anderson was previously named to the 2016 and 2015 All-Patriot League First Teams, the 2016 and 2015 Patriot League Preseason All-League Teams and the 2014 All-Patriot League Second Team.
Marine enjoyed a standout sophomore campaign in 2016. In nine games, he totaled 54 tackles (39 solo), two interceptions, 15 passes defended and three forced fumbles.
The league leader in passes defended and forced fumbles, Marine also paced all Patriot League cornerbacks in tackles per game (5.4). Nationally, he placed second in passes defended per game (1.7).
When he was tabbed to the 2016 All-Patriot League First Team, Marine became the first Bison cornerback to earn All-Patriot League honors since All-American Bryce Robertson in 2011. He enters 2017 with 107 tackles (82 solo), 24 passes defended, six interceptions and three forced fumbles in 20 career games.
A 2017 captain, Richard led Bucknell and ranked second in the Patriot League during the 2016 season with 95 tackles (55 solo) in 11 games. He also cracked the Patriot League’s top 10 in tackles for a loss (6th, 1.05) and sacks (7th, 0.45) per game.
Richard, who had four double-digit tackle efforts and made at least five in 10 of 11 games, finished second to Anderson among Bison in tackles for a loss (11.5) and sacks (5.0). He enters his senior season with 178 tackles (93 solo), 20.5 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks in 27 career games.
Richard was previously named to the 2016 All-Patriot League First Team, the 2016 Patriot League Preseason All-League Team and the 2015 All-Patriot League Second Team.
Bucknell was chosen to finish in fifth place in the Patriot League this season based on a vote by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion Lehigh was predicted to finish first, securing 70 points and 11 of 14 first-place votes. Fordham, Colgate and Holy Cross rounded out the top four while Lafayette and Georgetown were slotted in a tie for sixth.
