“We have made a decision to name Joey DeFloria one of our co-captains,” Susan said. “Joey has always been a leader by example both on and off the field. He is one of the hardest workers on our team. I know that Joey will continue to lead by the way he works and how he plays.”
Susan said the decision was made with the input of Anderson, Pyles and Richard as well as the Bison coaching staff.
“I meet with our captains every Monday, and they actually brought up this possibility to me,” Susan said. “They felt it would help them in their leadership role across our team. I spoke with our staff, and they agreed with this as well.”
A running back from Greensburg, Pa., DeFloria became only the 10th Bison to rush for at least 1,000 yards in a single season as a junior, finishing with 1,070 on 230 carries. He has rushed for at least 100 yards in six career games and needs just 472 yards to crack Bucknell's top 10 in career rushing yards.
In 2016, DeFloria accounted for 11 of the Bison's 32 touchdowns, running for 10 and also catching a touchdown pass at Duquesne. He took second on the team in receptions (29) and fourth in receiving yards (216), which helped him place fourth in the Patriot League with 1,286 all-purpose yards.
This season, DeFloria has rushed for 103 yards on 49 carries and also posted 40 yards on nine receptions.
DeFloria and the Bison return to action Saturday when they host Sacred Heart at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.bucknell.edu/boxoffice or by calling the Campus Box Office at 570-577-1000.
