CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After returning an interception a Bucknell football record 95 yards for the game-winning touchdown in overtime at Lafayette, Colin Jonov was voted as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
Jonov, who was also selected as the Bison Athlete of the Week, lifted the Bison to a 13-7 victory over the Leopards, who entered the game tied for first in the Patriot League with a 2-0 record.
Jonov's pick 6 was the sixth-longest touchdown in school history behind five kickoff return scores. Of Bucknell’s 17 touchdowns of at least 90 yards, 12 were kickoff returns, three were runs from the line of scrimmage and two were interception returns.
Joe Glenn owned the previous school record for longest interception return for a touchdown, a 90-yard score in a 33-28 win over Delaware State on Sept. 6, 2003.
This is Jonov's second career Patriot League weekly award. He was previously named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Nov. 17, 2014 after posting two interceptions, two pass breakups and two tackles in a 34-21 overtime win at Holy Cross.
Jonov is the second Bison to be named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining Ben Richard. Richard was honored on Sept. 25 after making a season-high 15 tackles in Bucknell's 34-31 victory over Sacred Heart.
Jonov was previously recognized as the Bison Athlete of the Week on Sept. 4 for his role in Bucknell's 45-6 rout of Marist. Jonov set the tone early, intercepting a pass on the Red Foxes' first drive of the game and returning it 64 yards for a touchdown. He was part of a defensive backfield that limited Marist to just 130 yards through the air.
In addition, Jonov garnered STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention accolades and was tabbed as College Sports Madness's Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
Jonov and the Bison will look to ride the momentum from Oct. 21's dramatic victory into this Saturday's game at Colgate. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
