CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Simeon Page was voted as the Patriot League's Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week following his performance during the Bucknell football team's 2017 finale at Fordham, the league office announced Monday.
Page, who was also tabbed as the Bison Athlete of the Week, was a force throughout the game, recording eight tackles, six tackles for a loss, four sacks and one forced fumble in the red zone. In total, he caused the Rams to lose 33 yards of ground.
Page's four sacks tied Bucknell's single-game record, held by Shawn Redd (1998), Ed Burman (twice in 1995) and Cecil Boone (1993). His six tackles for a loss was the highest total recorded by a Patriot League player in 2017 and ranks in the top 10 in NCAA FCS history.
Page finished his rookie campaign with nine sacks, which is tied for seventh in school history. It was the highest total posted by a Bison freshman; Page is one of only three underclassmen to appear in Bucknell's top 10 in single-season sacks.
Page was previously honored as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 4 after recording two solo tackles, one tackle for a loss and one sack to help Bucknell limit Marist to 154 yards of total offense in its 45-6 season-opening victory. This was his first career Defensive Player of the Week nod.
Other Bison to earn Patriot League weekly awards in 2017 include Brandon Benson (Nov. 6 Rookie of the Week), John Burdick (Oct. 16 and Sept. 25 Special Teams Player of the Week), Colin Jonov (Oct. 23 Defensive Player of the Week) and Ben Richard (Sept. 25 Defensive Player of the Week).
Page is the third football player to be selected as the Bison Athlete of the Week in 2017, joining Jonov (Oct. 23 and Sept. 4) and Richard (Sept. 25). He is only the second freshman to earn the award, joining women's swimming & diving's Maggie Wyngowski (Oct. 16).
Bucknell finished the 2017 campaign with a 5-6 (2-4 Patriot League). The Bison finished 12th in the FCS, and first in the Patriot League, in total defense (294.6).
