CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For their role in the Bucknell football team's thrilling 34-31 victory over Sacred Heart, John Burdick and Ben Richard captured Patriot League weekly honors.

The league office announced Monday afternoon that Burdick was voted as the Corvias Special Teams Player of the Week and Richard as the Defensive Player of the Week.

In addition, Richard was honored as the Bison Athlete of the Week and received STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Week honorable mention accolades.

Burdick, a first-time Patriot League honoree, booted a career-best 46-yard field goal as time expired to vault the Bison past the Pioneers. During the contest, the senior kicker went 2-for-2 on his field-goal attempts and 4-for-4 on his extra-point bids, racking up a career-high 10 points in the process.

Richard captured his third career Defensive Player of the Week award after leading the defense with 15 tackles (four solo). The senior linebacker also recovered a fumble in the red zone, which led to Bucknell's second touchdown, and teamed with Nick Zarkoski to make a critical stop on a Sacred Heart 4th and 1 with 1:29 remaining in regulation.

Richard's 15 tackles were the most posted by a Bison in 2017 and three shy of his career high, set on Oct. 3, 2015 at VMI. It was the eighth time in his collegiate career he reached the double figures in tackles.

Richard was previously honored as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5, 2016 and on Oct. 5, 2015.

Burdick and Richard are the second and third Bison to capture Patriot League weekly awards in 2017. Freshman linebacker Simeon Page was previously honored as the Rookie of the Week on Sept. 4 for his performance in Bucknell's 45-6 rout of Marist. Richard is the second football player to be tabbed as the Bison Athlete of the Week, joining senior cornerback Colin Jonov.
