LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men’s cross country freshman Drew Dorflinger was named Patriot League M-F Athletic Male Rookie of the Week Wednesday, following his strong collegiate debut Friday at the Bison Open.
Dorflinger ran well in his first meet as a Bison Friday, finishing second in a field of 50 runners. He completed the three-mile course in 14:44, five seconds behind winner and teammate Ross Pirnie, who was an honorable mention. Overall, the Bison ran well in their 2016 debut, as the team occupied the top 14 spots in the field.
In addition, the Patriot League announced its Preseason Poll on Wednesday, and the Bucknell men were picked to finish fifth on the 10-team ballot.
Navy was tabbed preseason favorites, tallying 162 points and 18 first-place votes. Army West Point was picked second with 135 points, followed by Boston University in third with 129.
Lehigh was picked fourth with 114 points, followed by Bucknell (89), American (60), Holy Cross (60), Lafayette (49), Colgate (37) and Loyola (22) to round out the poll.
Bucknell returns to action Saturday to compete at the 30th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titans Invitational. The men are scheduled to run at 11:45 a.m.
