LEWISBURG, Pa. – The 2017 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships began Wednesday night at Kinney Natatorium and the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team made a few changes to the program record book. The 200 medley relay broke the school record, the 800 free relay recorded the second-best time in program history and sophomore Abigail Rosenberg broke the school record in the 200 free as the leadoff leg.
Bucknell, which is hosting the event at Kinney Natatorium for the eighth time, is in sixth place in the team standings through just three events. A short schedule of just the two relays and three-meter diving were contested on Wednesday, the first day of the four-day event.
The 200 medley relay of Julie Byrne, Libby O'Hare, Julianna Foss and Rachel Perry finished in third place, breaking the school record in the process. They finished in 1:42.56, eclipsing the old record by .05. Foss was also a member of that relay at the 2015 Patriot League Championships.
The 800 free relay placed fourth in its race in 7:25.02, coming just .28 shy of the school record that was set in 2014. Rosenberg swam the first leg in 1:48.88, establishing a new program record in the 200 free. Rosenberg entered the day ranked No. 2 on that list with a time of 1:49.16, but she lowered it by more than a quarter of a second as she bested Lauren Perry’s three-year-old school standard.
The Patriot League Championships will continue Thursday. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Diving will take place at 1 p.m.
