LEWISBURG, Pa. – Both the Bucknell women’s and men’s track and field teams received All-Academic honors from the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), announced on Thursday. In addition, the Bison women were represented by Christine Bendzinski, Kate Scott and Dayna Simone while the Bison men were represented by Grant Reynolds and John Westwood on the organization’s individual All-Academic Team.
The Patriot League champion Bison women carried an impressive cumulative team GPA of 3.45 in the spring and were one of five Patriot League schools represented on the list.
Bendzinski finished with a 3.75 GPA in the spring semester to earn a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. A CoSIDA All-District Team selection, Bendzinski earned All-Patriot League citations in the 1,500-meter and as a member of the 4x800 relay team. She became one of the three Bison women to win an individual title at the ECAC Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet.
Scott concluded her spring semester with a 3.50 GPA. A history major, Scott won the 10,000-meter race for the second consecutive season, while joining Bendzinski as an individual event winner at the ECAC Championships. Scott also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet, competing in the 5,000m event.
Simone had a 3.91 GPA in the spring and graduated with a mark of 3.62. She earned All-Patriot League status at the outdoor championships with a runner-up finish in the javelin. Simone earned All-East honors at the ECAC Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet. Entering the postseason meet with the 39th-best throw in the region, Simone finished well above her seed, taking 20th out of 48.
The Bison men posted a 3.12 GPA and were one of four Patriot League schools represented on the list.
Reynolds had a 3.55 GPA in the spring and graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.47. A two-time Academic All-Patriot League selection, Reynolds capped off his Bison career in style, taking the gold in the 110 hurdles at the outdoor championships while winning the silver in the 400 hurdles. He earned All-East honors at the IC4A Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet in his final season. Westwood was one of three Bison men to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. An Academic All-Patriot League selection during the indoor season, Westwood leaves Bucknell as a six-time All-Patriot League selection.
