LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell and Boston University finished in a tie atop the Patriot League Women's Track and Field Preseason Poll, announced by the league on Friday. The two programs received 154 points and 10 first-place votes on the 10-team ballot, decided by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
Lehigh, with 128 points, was picked to finish third, followed by Army West Point (106), Holy Cross (91), Navy (90), Lafayette (68), American (45), Loyola (37) and Colgate (26) to round out the preseason poll.
Bucknell returns nine of its 12 All-Patriot League honorees from last season, including Christine Bendzinski (4x800 relay, mile, 1,000-meter), Sarah Chandler (4x800, 1,000m, mile, DMR), Emma Harris (4x800, DMR), Grace Loh (DMR), Kafilat Oladiran (60m), Laura Papili (DMR), Kate Scott (5,000m), Allison Sharkey (4x400) and Elyse Pettaway (4x400).
The Bison opened their indoor season on Dec. 2-3, hosting the Bison Opener at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Bucknell had a strong showing at the season opening meet, winning nine individual events, five coming from the Bison’s freshmen class.
Bucknell returns to action Jan. 7, hosting UMBC and Saint Francis (Pa.) in a tri-meet at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The 2016-17 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for Feb. 17-19 at Boston University.
