LEWISBURG, Pa. – After showing off her versatility at the Colonial Relays, Bucknell women’s track and field freshman Kaitlin Salisbury has been named M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, announced by the league on Tuesday.

Salisbury continues to rack up the accolades in her first year at Bucknell. The Patriot League Rookie of the Meet at the indoor championships, this is Salisbury’s fifth Patriot League Rookie of the Week citation.

Salisbury scored in three events to help Bucknell capture its first team title at the Colonial Relays in program history. The rookie posted a leap of 18-0 ½ in the long jump, which is the fifth-best mark in the Patriot League this season. Salisbury also scored in the 100-meter dash, completing the race in 12.34, now the sixth-fastest time in the league. She teamed up with Carli Lucke, Carly Reiner and Allison Sharkey to help the Bison score in the 4x100 relay with a top-10 program time of 47.91. Salisbury also competed in the triple jump, recording a leap of 37-7 ¼, now fourth-best in the Patriot League.

Christine Bendzinski was an honorable mention after breaking two school records. She won the 5,000m race with a time of 16:37.23, breaking the previous mark set by Kate Scott last season. Her time is the second-fastest in the league. Bendzinski also teamed up with Sharkey, Sarah Chandler and Jenna Farmer in the distance medley relay, breaking an 11-year-old program record with a time of 11:38.54.

The Bison women broke three school records at the William & Mary meet. In addition to the 5,000m and DMR, Chandler broke a 15-year-old record in the steeplechase. She completed the race in 10:39.30, shaving nearly 30 seconds off her personal best. She broke the previous mark of 10:41.98 set by Chris Crowe in 2002.  

Bucknell will compete this weekend (Apr. 7-8) at two meets. A group will compete at the Sun Devil Invitational, while another will compete at the Mason Spring Invite.
