LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell’s Maura Fiamoncini is set to compete in the javelin at the IAAF U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland. The qualification round of the event will begin at 2 a.m. Eastern time.
"We are all so proud of Maura, and she is giving our program tremendous exposure,” Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. “She will have a great experience competing at the international level, and I know she will do well"

The top 12 throwers in the field of 24 will advance to the finals. Fiamoncini has the fourth-best throw of the season amongst her qualifying group with a distance of 184-5. Only Japan’s Tomoka Kuwazoe (186-6), Italy’s Carolina Visca (186-4), and Chinese Tapei’s Hui-Jun-Li (185-4) have a better throw this season.
Fiamoncini qualified for the U20 World Championships with a second-place finish at the USATF Junior Championships in June. Her runner-up showing came with a throw of 177-3.
