BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Bucknell dropped both games of a doubleheader at Lehigh on Saturday in a matchup of the top two teams in the Patriot League softball standings. The Bison lost an 11-inning thriller 3-2 in the first game before falling 5-0 in the second contest.
Bucknell entered the day in sole possession of first-place in the Patriot League and now head to Sunday's final game of the series with an overall record of 21-7 and a league mark of 6-2. The Bison now sit one game back of Lehigh, which improved to 17-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
Sunday's game will be played at noon at Leadership Park. It will mark the halfway point of the conference schedule for both teams.
Game 1 -- Lehigh 3, Bucknell 2 (11 innings)
Bucknell and Lehigh battled to a 2-2 tie after 10 innings before Reva Alderman ended it with a one-out double in the bottom of the 11th inning, scoring Ashley Rabago as the winning run.
Freshman Raeanne Geffert pitched all 11 innings for the Bison, including nine in which she didn't give up a run. She allowed two runs to tie the game in the sixth inning and the game-winning run in the 11th.
Geffert, who dropped to 12-3 on the season, allowed 10 hits in 10.1 innings of work. She didn't issue a walk and struck out four batters.
Christine Campbell pitched all 11 innings to improve to 10-4 for Lehigh.
Bucknell took the lead by scoring both of its runs in the third inning. Marisa Alemany plated both runs with a two-run single.
The Bison had their chances in extra innings. They stranded six runners between the eighth, ninth, and 10th innings. Meghan Kovac led off the ninth with a double, but the Bison would go on to strand the bases loaded.
Game 2 -- Lehigh 5, Bucknell 0
Emily Sorem pitched a two-hit shutout to give the Mountain Hawks the win in the second game. She walked three and struck out three while improving to 6-6.
Lehigh had six hits and took advantage of four walks and three errors by the Bison.
