LEWISBURG, Pa. -- After a sensational performance at the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship over the weekend, Bucknell freshman J.P. Raftery has been named Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week.
Raftery totaled a 2-under-par 211 over 54 holes, with rounds of 71-67-73 at the par-71 U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course. That was good for a tie for second place in a field of 48 players, earning him First Team All-Patriot League and Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. Raftery made 13 birdies over the three rounds, seven of them coming during his second-round 67.
Raftery's second-round 67 was the second-best 18-hole score by a Bison at the Patriot League Championship. Ben Pellicani posted a 5-under 65 in round two at Bucknell in 2005.
Raftery's 211 total was three behind Andrew Cohen's Bucknell record at a Patriot League Championship. Cohen shot 208 at West Point in 2009. Charlie Waddell posted 209 at Bucknell in 2005 and 210 at Navy in 2006.
Raftery is Bucknell's third Rookie of the Year, joining Cohen in 2007 and Peter Scialabba in 2012.
Bucknell finished in fourth place in the team standings, edging Lafayette by two shots. Army West Point won the tournament, finishing 2-under as a team. Army's Dean Sakata broke the tournament record with an 11-under 202 to earn medalist honors.
