HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Freshman Chris Tanabe carded a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday and the Bucknell men's golf team finished with a 300 team score en route to an eighth-place finish at the Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational at Seven Oaks GC. Tanabe ended up in a tie for 16th place with a 7-over 223 total for his first career top-20 finish.
Bucknell started the final round in a tie for ninth place after posting 306-299 on Saturday. The Bison got four scores of 77 or better on Sunday, and they moved up a spot in the standings. North Dakota State closed with a 290 to come from behind and win the team title with an 884 total for 54 holes. Cornell, the 36-hole leader, finished two shots behind, while Penn, Seton Hall and Lehigh rounded out the top five. Bucknell was just three shots behind the Mountain Hawks for a top-five finish, as the standings were tightly bunched.
Tanabe had four birdies, three bogeys and 11 pars in his third round. He played a nine-hole stretch from holes 5 through 13 in 4-under-par. Tanabe shot 77-75 on Saturday.
Josh Goldenberg of Penn won the individual title with a 1-under 215 (74-71-70). He bested Mike Graboyes of Cornell by two shots.
The Bison will play in upstate New York for the third straight week next Saturday and Sunday at the Cornell Invitational.
