WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's tennis squad fought a tough battle, but fell to Army, by a final score of 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in West Point, N.Y. Despite picking up only two wins, the Bison hung close in almost every match played.
In No. 1 singles, sophomore Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./rye County Day Upper) came out on the victorious end of a three-set match against Carl Fisher, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, while freshman Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) defeated Kevin Harris in two sets in the No. 5 spot, 7-6, 6-4.
Senior Asher Salam (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) played a very competitive match in the No. 2 spot, but fell in three sets. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Salam came back to win set number two, 6-3, but just ran out of steam in the third set and fell 6-1 to Phil Muhawi.
Sophomore John Lashnits (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greely) fell in a tough, 7-6, 6-3 contest against Michael Good in the No. 4 spot.
In doubles play, the duo of Salam and Reibeisen delivered the tightest match for the Orange and Blue, falling 8-6 in the No. 1 spot to John Houghton and Carl Fisher.
Bucknell will return to action on Tuesday, April 11, hosting Villanova at 3 p.m.
