HERSHEY, Pa. – Bucknell women’s tennis is 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2005 after shutting out La Salle 7-0 on Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Bison lost just one set in singles, and didn’t give up more than three games in any of the doubles contests.

“It was a solid performance from everyone,” Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. “It’s good to see many of our freshmen playing so well early on, and our upperclassmen are playing very strong tennis, as well.”

The Bison added the La Salle win to earlier victories over Niagara and St. Bonaventure to stay unbeaten. They have won their three matches by a combined score of 19-2.

Lisa Jouravleva, Paige Leavy, Schuyler La Barge, and Mishi Papich all moved their individual records to 3-0 this spring. Madeline Melch remained unbeaten at 2-0.

La Barge had the lone three-set match of the day and also clinched the win for the Bison. After falling 6-1 in the first set, she turned the tables with 6-0 and 6-3 wins in the final two to pick up the victory on court three.

Jouravleva upped her career record to 54-24 and moved into a tie for 12th with Elena Vidrascu (2011-15) on Bucknell’s career singles wins list. She won easily on court one, 6-1, 6-4.

Leavy (court two), Papich (court four), and Melch (court five) had no trouble keeping their perfect records intact, winning in straight sets.

Freshman Sofia Ayuso made her spring debut for the Bison and picked up her first career dual win by 6-4, 6-0 scores on court six.

Bucknell improved to 8-1 in doubles matches with wins in all three on Saturday. Jouravleva teamed with Leavy for a 6-1 victory on court one, while Papich and Cayla Koch prevailed by the same score on court two. La Barge and Ayuso were 6-3 winners on court three.

La Salle dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Bison will play at Drexel on Friday at 11 a.m. The Dragons are 3-1 after winning consecutive matches over Campbell, Georgetown, and Lehigh.
