ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Madeline Melch kept her winning streak intact, but the Bucknell women’s tennis team lost to Navy 6-1 on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Sunday’s match was a battle of two red-hot teams. Navy improved to 22-5 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League with its 10th-straight win. The Mids have won nine of those matches by either 6-1 or 7-0 scores. Bucknell dropped to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference, but has won seven of its last nine matches.
Melch has been on a roll while playing No. 6 singles, upping her winning streak to seven straight matches with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Meghan O’Malley. The Bucknell senior is 10-2 during the spring season.
“We just didn’t make adjustments when we needed to. We gave up way too many unforced errors,” Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. “Maddie played a smart match. Cayla (Koch) and Mishi (Papich) played pretty well but just didn’t maintain it enough to pick up the games they needed.
The Bison will host Lehigh for a Patriot League match on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
