LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell volleyball team will be on the road for a pair of Patriot League matches this weekend. The Bison look to stay afloat in the postseason race with matches at Holy Cross on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Army West Point on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both contests will be shown free of charge on the Patriot League Network.

The Bison are 9-8 overall – the program’s best record through 17 matches since the 2006 season – and 3-4 in the Patriot League after a 3-0 win over Loyola (Md.) on Friday and a 3-0 loss at Colgate on Monday. They have one more conference loss than the Raiders, who currently sit fourth in the league standings.

Bucknell ranks second in the Patriot League in blocks, averaging 2.22 per set. Senior Karen Campbell is second at 1.25 per set, while junior Erika Eastley is fifth at 1.00 per set. Campbell is also third in hitting percentage (.363) and fifth in kills (3.11/set), while senior Meghan Wentzel ranks third in assists (9.22/set).

Five of the Bison’s nine wins have come by 3-0 scores. With one more sweep, they will eclipse the total from all of last season.

Holy Cross is 5-14 overall. The Crusaders lost their first four league matches, but improved to 2-4 with a 3-2 win over Navy and a 3-0 victory over Lafayette. They also added a 3-1 win over non-conference foe Bryant in their most recent match. Mandy Sifferlen is the conference leader in kills, averaging 3.82 per set, while Mary Mullen is fourth in blocks (1.03/set).

Bucknell leads 33-14 in the all-time series. The Bison and Crusaders have split two matches in each of the past two seasons.

Army West Point has proven to be one of the top teams in the conference this year, posting a 13-6 overall record and 5-1 mark in the Patriot League. The Black Knights have won three straight matches against league opponents Loyola (Md.), Lafayette and Navy. They are a strong all-around team, ranking second in the conference in hitting percentage (.239), assists (12.50/set), kills (13.39/set) and digs (15.64/set). Carolyn Bockrath (.436) and Vanessa Wesley (.420) rank first and second in the league in hitting percentage, while Vanessa Edwards leads in assists (10.17/set) and Shannel Chong leads in digs (4.58/set).

The Black Knights lead the all-time series 32-13. The Bison’s last win came during the 2006 Patriot League Tournament.
