BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell ran in to a red-hot Lehigh team in a Patriot League volleyball match Sunday at Leeman-Turner Arena, falling to the Mountain Hawks 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19). The Mountain Hawks upped their winning streak to eight straight matches.
Sophomore Mimi Richards added six block assists to her impressive season total, which now stands at 78. She needs just 10 more to move into a tie for the fifth most in a single-season at Bucknell.
The Bison had 10 total blocks in the match as they continue to lead the Patriot League in that category. Senior Celeste Barker tallied two solo blocks and two block assists, while seniors Hailey Stout and Luz Nagle contributed three and two block assists, respectively.
Unfortunately for Bucknell, Lehigh was also strong at the net. The Mountain Hawks recorded 12 total blocks while holding the Bison to a -.011 hitting percentage. Lauren Bright finished with one solo and seven block assists.
Defense was the strength of both teams throughout the match as neither team had a player register double-digit kills. Junior Blake Buchholz had six and sophomore Sophie Bullard had five to lead the Bison, while Julia Pressly paced the Mountain Hawks with seven.
Surprisingly, neither team had a player a player with double-digit digs either. Sophomore Brooke Starke was the leader for Bucknell with eight, while three players finished with six for Lehigh.
The Mountain Hawks improved to 13-5 overall and remained unbeaten at 4-0 in the Patriot League. They have lost just two sets during their eight-match winning streak.
Bucknell is still in good shape at .500 both overall (8-8) and in the league (2-2). The Bison have another tough league matchup next as they travel to play Navy on Saturday at noon. The Mids have won five straight matches, including a 3-1 victory over preseason favorite American, to improve to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
